We met in a small town bar. I had just moved to town a few months earlier and was busy sulking about a lot of the things that had happened in my life and where it had got me. I moved for a fresh start and instantly starting feeling positive and hopeful. I had told myself when moving to a Navy town that there is NO WAY I will date a Navy boy (keep that in mind) also, I had zero ideas how to date as I was married and with the same man since I was 15. So here I was, recently 28, divorced, with 3 kids starting all over.. anyways (kinda went off on a tangent there…sorry). I moved to this town because my best friend from high school lived there. After months of not doing anything since getting there she finally convinced me to suck it up and go have a drink with her at the bar. So…. I did
About an hour into drinks that night, here approached this guy, going to my friend first (he says she was way less intimidating and it was his way to open conversation with me cute stuff, I know). He says “what are you ladies up to tonight?” Long story short, we ended up talking all night. He really made me laugh a lot. He told me he was a manager at Jack in the Box ( I knew he was full of it, I knew he was Navy- I just had no idea how much of a big deal his job really was). So here was this 21 year old boy… yes, that’s how I thought of him.. a kid… but he had my attention. My friend was shocked as I tend to always blow men off and never give them the time of day….but this one… this “toddler” as she liked to call him, had me intrigued. Anyways, I gave him my number. He said he was going to go run with me (I'm an avid runner and I race quite often) so I gave it to him. We said goodnight and that was that.
I woke the next morning thinking and laughing to myself “what a cute kid….but im never going to see him again”…. I woke to a text from him from that night when he got home… around 2am… said “its crazy, I cant stop thinking about you…Have a goodnight Miss”
Although I never planned to see him again, he was pretty persistent. Always texting and always trying to meet up.. I blew him off or used the kids as an excuse quite often.
Finally… after maybe a month of flirting back and forth and constant persistence, I agreed to a date. Honestly had no idea what this 21 year old guy wanted with a divorced with 3 kids, 28yo woman, but I agreed.
The date was…incredible… not what I expected and I had forgotten just how smitten with him I was. We had an amazing time and laughed and talked most of the night into the morning. We said goodnight and that we’d see each other again soon.
I was surprised when he already wanted to see me again the next day. So date 2, was literally the next day…. After that, it was just kind of over for life without one another and we have been nearly inseparable since. We both didn’t want to admit we loved each other till much much later; but we did.
We moved in together about a year later. Engaged 6 months after that. And now, 2 years later we are getting married. He is an amazing human being and ive just never met anyone like him. He’s such a loving and great father to my kids. And to this day still keeps me laughing everyday.
Stephanie and Chris were married over looking beautiful Lake Tahoe in the Blue Sky Terrace, Surrounded by so much love from their family and friends. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast capturing their love story as it unfolded. We became fast friends and we are looking forward to watching them grow as husband and wife as they start this new life together with their family.
